Ditch the Budget and Create a Spending Plan

Around here, we don't use the "B" word. We create sustainable Spending Plans and not budgets. If you find yourself struggling to create your Spending Plan? Here are some tips to help:

  • Be realistic about your income and expenses. It's important to be honest with yourself about how much money you have coming in and going out each month. Track your income and expenses for at least one month to get a good understanding of your spending habits.

  • Set financial goals. What do you want to achieve with your money? Do you want to save for a down payment on a house? Pay off debt? Retire early? Once you know what you're working towards, it's easier to create a Spending Plan that will help you reach your goals.

  • Prioritize your expenses. Not all expenses are created equal. Some expenses, like your mortgage and food, are essential. Others, like entertainment and dining out, are discretionary. When you're creating your Spending Plan, it's important to prioritize your essential expenses first. Identify your fixed expenses, such as rent, food, and transportation, and make sure to allocate enough money to cover them each month.

  • Track your spending. It's important to track your spending so that you can see where your money is going. This will help you identify areas where you can cut back.

  • Be flexible. Things don't always go according to plan. If you have an unexpected expense, don't be afraid to adjust your Spending Plan accordingly. Review your spending plan regularly and make adjustments as needed.

Creating a functional Spending Plan takes time and effort, but it's worth it in the end. By following these tips, you can create a Spending Plan that will help you achieve your financial goals and live a more stress-free life.
